Catalyst - Institute for Creative Arts and Technology
Exciting news at Catalyst – Institute for Creative Arts & Technology! Over the last eleven years, we’ve been carving out a community of creative learners here in Berlin. This year, our community is expanding as we launch our new School of Creative Human Development – sitting alongside our School of Music & Sound, School of Film & Visual Media and School of Acting.
Students at the new school will be studying on the same campus and invited into existing networks, with multidisciplinary collaboration underpinning what we do at Catalyst.
The new school aims to unite students’ personal creative practices with evidence-based insights into positive psychology and human development. Its programmes will help you accelerate your own physical, personal and social development, with an emphasis on improving your communities and the world at large.
Of course, all of our schools work toward growing the whole person, but the School of Creative Human Development centers those more intangible aspects of personal growth.
We’re launching this new arm of our institute at a time of rapid technological change and burgeoning understanding of human development and creativity in the scientific fields. Melding these two is not just possible but necessary in a world facing unprecedented levels of uncertainty.
The courses are well-suited for people wanting to develop their own artistic practices, but the curriculum also benefits those who want to learn to work with others artistically, supporting creativity in others and exploring the science and psychology behind artistic practices. The curriculum covers four key pathways:
These pathways prepare students for a range of careers. Roles include, but aren’t limited to: artists, child development specialists, creative wellbeing coaches, performers, art therapists, community health practitioners, artist care professionals, creative directors, school administrators, and roles in government sectors like arts funding and initiatives.
Our MA programme in Applied Creative Psychology is set to launch in September 2027. We are also currently accepting applications to our short course in The Psychology of Creativity, starting June 2025. The four-week course will run alongside our offering of nine other short courses, specialising in electronic music, studio recording, modular synthesis, sound for visual media, filmmaking, acting and screenwriting.
