About LLM SQE, LLM - at De Montfort University

DMU’s LLM SQE is designed to prepare you for the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE), the new route to qualifying as a solicitor in England in Wales.

The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills tested in the challenging SQE 1 and SQE 2 assessments, covering key elements such as practical legal research, drafting, advocacy, legal writing and interviewing. You will also have the opportunity to bolster your learning with wider employability skills, helping to prepare you for success not only in the SQE exams but also for life as a solicitor.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to apply relevant core legal principles and rules at the level of a competent, newly qualified solicitor across many areas, including business law, property law and criminal litigation. Your learning will culminate in a final dissertation, which presents the opportunity to personalise your learning by pursuing a relevant area of law of particular interest.

Key features

  • DMU is one of the only universities to provide students with free access to BARBRI SQE Prep software, which features exam-focused workbooks, study materials and mock exams to help you prepare for your SQE examinations.
  • Receive dedicated support every step of the way with an SQE careers tutor - a qualified solicitor who can offer tailored career advice, CV and cover letter support.
  • Receive teaching from legal experts with a wealth of real-world experience. This includes barristers, solicitors, professors and practitioners from the international legal arena.
  • Benefit from the support of our Advisory Board, comprised of 20 leaders from local and global organisations. Law students can look forward to industry visits, guest lectures, mentorship and internship opportunities.
  • Expand your knowledge in dedicated learning spaces, including our crown court – a site of trials since the Middle Ages - a training courtroom, a simulated Judge's Chambers suite and a dedicated law library exclusively for law students.
  • Benefit from Education 2030, where a simplified ‘block learning’ timetable means you will study one subject at a time and have more time to engage with your learning, receive faster feedback and enjoy a better study-life balance.
