Botany, as a field of study, has a long tradition at the Charles University and belongs to a group of evolutionary and ecological oriented scientific disciplines. The programme provides education in systematics, diversity, evolution, and ecology of vascular and non-vascular plants, algae, fungi and related organisms. The study comprises both theoretical and practical education by means of lectures, seminars, field excursions, and laboratory courses which provide training for research and applied practice. The graduates elaborate diploma thesis in the fields of systematics, evolution, and ecology of plant species and their populations, and in vegetation and landscape ecology in present and historical perspectives. The Master programme offers training in five specialities, namely Phycology and algal ecology, Bryology and lichenology, Mycology, Plant ecology, and Vascular plants.
