About Bachelor of Education, BEd - at Griffith University

CRICOS Code: 090883C

Become a teacher in just three and half years

This program prepares students to teach in primary or secondary settings. Students undertake a foundation first year and then choose to pursue either primary or secondary education from Year 1/Trimester 3. Gaining practical experience from first year, students undertake professional practice throughout the degree which includes observation and participation in schools, practice teaching and community field studies.

If choosing primary education, majors are

  • Early childhood education (Logan or Online)
  • Health and physical education (Gold Coast or Online)
  • Special needs education (Mt Gravatt or Online)

Primary education minors are also offered in English, mathematics or science.

If choosing secondary education, students undertake studies in two teaching areas or one area and a major in learning support (Mt Gravatt and Online). Teaching area content courses may be offered on-campus only and students should check the timetable for individual courses as to whether they can be completed online. Students may need to travel to another campus to undertake courses specific to a Secondary Teaching Area that are not offered on their home campus.

Note: The Australian Federal Government has mandated that all students of initial teacher education programs demonstrate they have been assessed as being in the top 30% of the adult population for personal literacy and numeracy. The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) is administered and managed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). While this is not a requirement for admission, all students will need to organise and demonstrate a pass result in all components of the LANTITE prior to graduation.

I chose Griffith for its state-of-the-art facilities

I was accepted into five different dental schools in Australia, and I chose Griffith for its state-of-the-art facilities and because it was the only school that offered credit for prior learning.

Griffith has some amazing facilities that really help to solidify my knowledge, which will eventually help me to be the best clinician I can be.

I also thought the Gold Coast was going to be the best fit for me in terms of lifestyle.

Everything from the beaches, to the community, to the vibe of the city is exactly what I hoped it would be.

Brittani Kwok, Canada
Master of Dentistry

I love the wide variety of cultures, languages and ethnic backgrounds present across the campus.

As an international student, I love the wide variety of cultures, languages and ethnic backgrounds present across the campus. The university supports international students through dedicated advisors, events and activities.

I love studying at Griffith and aspire to be a medical scientist. At Griffith I can access great medical science and medical laboratory facilities.

My program involves more than 400 hours in university laboratories and 400 hours in real laboratory experience. Hence, graduates have almost 100% employment rate as medical scientists.

Aya Okamoto, Japan
Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science

University life here is great and there’s a perfect balance between work and fun.

University life here is great and there’s a perfect balance between work and fun.

Griffith has supported me through my student journey in numerous ways. The International Student Advisors really helped me figure out my study load, they would call and check on me and helped me with finding a house. I’m forever grateful for their support.

I chose Griffith because of its reputation as the top hospitality school in Australia and because it gave me the option to do a double degree. I also love living in the land Down Under! The people are so friendly and warm, always ready to help or have a chat.

Annamae Manilal, India
Masters of International Tourism and Hospitality Management, Masters of Marketing
