About Crop and Pasture Science, BSc - at Murdoch University

To meet the needs of the world's growing population, it's estimated that global food production will need to double by 2050. In this course, you'll gain a regional, national and global perspective on how to address this issue, with training from scientists, professionals and industry-leading farmers in the how science is applied to food production.

You'll learn about the factors that affect the growth of plants used for food and forage production, and how plant growth can be manipulated through various interventions. You'll explore the agricultural business operating environment in terms of government policies, markets and the value chain. You'll examine the role of new technologies in improving the yield, profitability and sustainability of food production systems.

Studying at Australia's only campus-based farm, you'll gain hands-on experience in soil science, crop science and pasture science. As part of your studies, you'll have the chance to get hands-on experience across a total of eight weeks of industry placements in farms and agriculture research programs across WA.

To expand your skills and career prospects, you can create a double major with Crop and Pasture Science and Animal Science. This will make you an adaptable and innovative agricultural scientist ready for a variety of careers in the agricultural industries. You'll address increasing global concern around food security and develop a deep understanding of how to feed a growing population, exploring new and emerging technologies and how to add value to existing production.
