Our MSc Human Resource Management (HRM) course is ideal for students from any academic discipline who want to build a successful career in the HR area. This course is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), equipping you with the in-depth knowledge and practical skills required in today's competitive market.
During your studies, you will explore a full range of HRM approaches, techniques and methodologies. The modules will provide you with a solid grounding in HRM and its practice in contemporary organisations. You'll gain internationally-relevant skills that create career opportunities in consultancy, recruitment, training and other HR roles which facilitate global business.
During your second semester, you will have the opportunity to specialise in your subject area, creating a tailored degree path. We currently work with over 100 academic institutions worldwide giving you the chance to spend a few weeks abroad giving you a truly international perspective.
In your final semester you will take on an experiential project, giving you a fantastic opportunity to use the theories and knowledge gained to produce a challenging, meaningful piece of work. This can involve addressing real-world challenges in the workplace, conducting independent research or gaining valuable experience internationally.
As this course is approved by the CIPD, you will be registered as a student member whilst you're studying with us, upon graduation this course will give you Associate Membership with the CIPD. Your Masters also meets the knowledge requirements for the more senior Chartered Member status. To ensure you take advantage of the CIPD resources and connections, Nottingham Business School will pay for your student membership for the duration of the course.

More than a degree
This course is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) as meeting the knowledge requirements that are pre-requisite for Chartered Membership or Chartered Fellowship of the CIPD. Successful completion of this MSc will provide you with Associate Membership of the CIPD.
Work experience
You can also add a year's work placement to your studies making your Master's a two-year course (not available for January starters) providing you with an increase competitive edge over your peers.

The degree is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the professional body for Human Resources and people development. The organisation is recognised throughout the world, and having a qualification approved by the CIPD can help you to secure a job in Human Resources and improve your chances of progression in your career.
Study and support
Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.
Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.
We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.
Assessment methods
A variety of methods are used throughout the degree, including examinations and assignments. Assessments maybe essays, reflective reports or consultancy reports they will require investigation, critical analysis and recommendations for improvement. Assignments may also include both formative and summative assessed presentations. Other forms of assignment may involve selection interviewing or being part of a consultancy group seeking to win a training contract.
The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of e-learning to further support the feedback process.
Induction
All our courses begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

In-sessional English language support
In-sessional English language support classes are available to all international (non-EU) students studying on degree courses at NTU. There is no extra charge for these classes.

Alongside your study you also have the opportunity to learn a new language. The University Language Programme (ULP) is available to all students and gives you the option of learning a totally new language or improving the skills you already have.

Placement Year Opportunities
If you are starting your degree in September, you can choose to add a year's work placement, making your Masters a two-year course. It is a great way to put your learning into practice and gain valuable real-world experience to boost your career. If you undertake a placement, you must take up the Business Research Project in Semester three.

If you are unable to take a full year's placement, but have completed at least 36 weeks, you can qualify for a Placement Diploma in Industrial Experience.

Consultancy project
The module aims to develop your capacity to work as part of a management team through active participation in a live consultancy project, and to enhance the ability to communicate clearly; argue rationally; and apply strategic concepts to produce real business solutions - given time constraints and conditions of uncertainty. Completing the project will enable you to demonstrate your acquired knowledge and skills in a valuable practical application.

The School is based in the impressive Newton Building on NTU's City site. In 2009 the building was involved in a £90 million regeneration project on the site. Whilst maintaining its historic beauty, the Grade II listed building was transformed into an ultra-modern complex.
