About MSc International Business, MSc - at Nottingham Trent University (NTU)

With our MSc International Business (Single Award) degree, you can gain an incredibly valuable international experience in just a year. Study with us in the UK, immerse yourself in a new culture at one of our European partner institutions and choose from an exciting range of hands-on final projects.

As an International Business single award student, you will have several study options, so you can shape your experience around your ambitions, interests and commitments.

Our standard Masters involves rigorous core studies here at the Business School, followed by a term studying abroad at one of our partner institutions in Germany, France, South Korea, Czech Republic, Belgium, Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Slovenia, Poland, Switzerland and Portugal.

This is followed by a major project, at home or abroad. International travel is a key element of this qualification - we know that some of our students won't have the flexibility to leave the UK for a prolonged period, and so we offer a stay-at-home route, involving more study here at NBS. All our students are offered the chance to go on a study tour, so stay-at-home students will still have opportunities to develop their international perspective in person.

In your final semester, you will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge you have learnt so far in a Business Research Project. This project is a traditional piece of independent research, creating an academic research paper, presentation and methodological research.

Why choose this degree?

  • This degree will enable participants to study business while providing an insight into cultural and international impacts. It will also provide participants with a greater cultural awareness.
  • The degree is distinctly multidisciplinary in nature and aims to equip participants for improving their own management action.
  • You will complete a comprehensive development programme, which includes a short residential team-building course, normally held in the Peak District.
  • You can learn from the best by attending guest lectures from leading organisations. Previous speakers have included representatives from companies such as E.ON, Lego, Experian, Santander, and IBM.
  • NTU's teaching and learning is gold-rated by the government's Teaching Excellence Framework - that means you can count on outstanding teaching and learning, an education that's truly focused on the workplace, and fantastic support in and outside of the classroom.

How you're taught

Study tour

The study tour takes place each year, meaning that all students, whether they start in September or January, will have the opportunity to take part. The cost of the trip is covered by your tuition fees, and all students will be provided with help and support in applying for the necessary visas.

The destination and style of the trip varies each year, but previous destinations have included Lisbon, Brescia and Venice.

Browse through a selection of photos taken on previous trips.

While abroad you will have the chance to take part in a number of activities, including industry visits, networking opportunities, attending lectures and seminars at a summer school, and of course some sight-seeing. The trip is also normally linked to your consultancy project, giving you the opportunity to meet the organisation you are working for, and present your ideas directly back to them.

The trip has proven itself to be a key factor in the success of the programme, with students benefiting from the business and cultural aspects of it. Some students have also been successful in securing internships with organisations involved.

Study and support

Teaching and learning methods are centred around interactive workshops which are highly participative in nature and will employ case studies, discussions, business simulations and group activities.

Interactivity is key to our teaching and we are committed to providing courses that adopt teaching methods that are appropriate to the student cohort and the specific modules.

We ensure that support and guidance is in place, especially during the early stages of the course and assessment periods, to help you become comfortable with operating in a student-centred learning environment.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the course, the choice of which reflects the needs and demands of the different types of module. Some modules will assess the ability to work collaboratively in a team and others will assess individual capability. Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research-based projects.

The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on your performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.

Induction

All our masters degrees begin with a comprehensive development programme that will help you prepare for your studies and develop key academic and transferable skills. A key feature is a short residential team-building course, normally in the Peak District.

Browse through a selection of photos from our residential weekends.

You will also have opportunities to meet members of the teaching team and other postgraduate students, receive detailed programme information, and gain valuable support and guidance from the library, careers service, international office and Student Support Services.
