This masters degree is a joint award with City University

This masters degree will:

give you a detailed understanding of special educational needs in relation to children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) and the relevant current legislation
enhance your knowledge of how children develop speech, language, literacy and numeracy
develop your awareness of the social and emotional development and needs of children with SLCN
provide information about assessment processes and intervention procedures for children with SLCN
focus on language and communication needs from an educational, health and social perspective.

gain a qualification that is endorsed by the Department for Education, the Department of Health, the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and the Teaching Agency

Who is this programme for?

Qualified teachers who have an interest in SLCN. Speech and language therapists (including early years practitioners) working with children and young people with SLCN.

Entry requirements

A good first degree in a relevant subject, plus a teaching qualification or a professional qualification in speech and language therapy. It is desirable for applicants to have appropriate experience of educational settings and/or in special educational needs, or working with children with SLCN.

Research design and statistics
Social, emotional and behavioural development in children with SLCN.

Entry requirements

1. Students are normally required to have a minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0 for direct entry, with a score of no lower than 6.0 for writing and 6.5 for reading. 2. A good first degree in a relevant subject, plus a teaching qualification or a professional qualification in speech and language therapy. It is desirable for applicants to have appropriate experience of educational settings and/or in special educational needs, or working with children with SLCN.
