About Nursing - After Degree, BSc - at University of Alberta

Why take the BScN after-degree program?

The After-Degree Program is for students who already hold a university degree.

As a university graduate - in any field of study - you have developed critical thinking and analytical skills, additional education and career skills, and life experience, all of which makes you an excellent candidate for this program, and for a career in nursing!

The After-Degree can also be taken as an Honors program.

We also offer a BScN bilingual program and an RPN-to-BScN program.

Entry requirements

This program does not allow admission directly from high school.

Requirements:

  • A baccalaureate degree from a recognized academic institution.
  • Students must normally present a minimum AGPA of 3.5. Admission is competitive.
  • Completion of the following prerequisite courses: English(*3), Human Anatomy (*3), Human Physiology (*3), Medical Microbiology (*3), Psychology (*3), and Statistics (*3).
  • Effective Fall 2018 admission and onward, the following prerequisite courses require a minimum grade of C+* and must be taken within 5 years of BScN program start date: Human Anatomy (*3), Human Physiology (*3), and Medical Microbiology (*3).
  • Submission of the CASPer test is required to be evaluated for Admission to the program. More information on the CASPer test requirement, dates and deadlines can be found at CASPer.
  • Students must obtain a grade equivalent to C+ as determined by the grading scale in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. International applicants' grading equivalences will be considered on a case by case basis.

    Fees, Funding and Scholarships at University of Alberta

    The University of Alberta offers a wide ranges of scholarships to international students. You will be evaluated for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Your eligibility will be based on your high school admission average at the time of your admission offer. We'll assess you for a match to the following three schoolarship. If you are eligible for an admission-based scholarship we will contact you directly!

    • International Admissions Scholarship-up to $5,000
    • Regional Excellence Scholarship- up to $5,000
    • Gold Standard Scholarship- up to $6,000

    You can also apply for our prestigious application based scholarships. Each year we award twenty five, $120K President's International Distinction scholarships.
