About Psychiatry, MSc, PhD - at University of Alberta

The Department of Psychiatry offers outstanding opportunities for students wishing to pursue graduate studies at both the master's and doctoral level. Faculty members are known internationally for their research, covering most areas relevant to psychiatry and neuropsychiatry.

The MSc and PhD programs may be taken with a specialization in Epidemiology, Forensic Psychiatry, Neurochemistry, Psychopharmacology, or Psychotherapy.

Notes about fees for this course

All supervisors are responsible for financial support of full-time graduate students. Financial support will usually be provided from the supervisor's grants, awards/scholarships to the student, or a combination of the two.

Entry requirements

The Department's minimum admission requirements are an undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.2 on the 4-point scale from the University of Alberta, or an equivalent qualification and standing from a recognized institution. The admission GPA will be calculated on the last *60 of graded coursework completed, or on the equivalent of the last two years of full-time graded coursework.

Where applicable, applicants must have a minimum TOEFL score of at least 92 (Internet-based) or equivalent (refer to English Language Requirement).

Applicants are also required to submit three letters of reference, a current curriculum vitae, a brief description of the proposed research, and a letter from the prospective supervisor, detailing stipend amount and source. Prospective students are encouraged to contact directly the faculty members whose research is of interest to them.

Fees, Funding and Scholarships at University of Alberta

The University of Alberta offers a wide ranges of scholarships to international students. You will be evaluated for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Your eligibility will be based on your high school admission average at the time of your admission offer. We'll assess you for a match to the following three schoolarship. If you are eligible for an admission-based scholarship we will contact you directly!
