About Pharmacy Practice (Part time), PG Dip - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

This Postgraduate programme is part of the Joint Programmes Board initiative, which includes working partnerships between seven Schools of Pharmacy within the South and South East of England.

Study

Develop pharmacist skills and knowledge which are appropriate for the workplace. Course topics include: basic clinical skills, drug knowledge in a range of therapeutic areas, general practice knowledge, maximising patient safety, conducting simple research, teaching peers and how to engage with the national agenda for pharmacy and the wider NHS.

Structure

Performance assessment using a professional capability framework guides the trainee in the development of general pharmacy practice in various areas. This is supported by a practice portfolio and coursework designed to reflect workplace practice, plus oral, poster and written presentations, objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and a multiple choice examination.

Teaching

Where applicable, joint teaching is undertaken to enrich the learning experience with common skills, such as consultation and leadership, and specialist experiences are tailored to each sector.

Employability

The course is designed to enable pharmacists from community, primary care and hospital within the Eastern region to deliver patient-focused services, utilising good clinical and consultation skills. At Diploma level, it enables hospital and primary care pharmacists to apply for Band 7 posts, gives community pharmacists the ability to provide a range of enhanced services, and develops the clinical and organisational skills required to contribute to positively changing the NHS.

Entry requirements

Applicants must currently be practicing in a GPhC registered pharmacy.
