About Geography, BSc (Hons) - at University of Glasgow

Geography is the study of the surface of the earth as the site of human living and working. It considers the variability in physical and human landscapes, along with the inter-relationships commonly binding them together.

What will I study?

Initially you are introduced to a wide range of concerns and interests within both physical and human geography. In the following year you will study a series of key geographical themes in greater depth, drawing in concepts and examples from the forefront of current research literatures. In both years attention is paid to the specificity of physical and human processes occurring within particular world regions and environments.

If you progress to Honours, you will choose courses from a list of options in fields ranging from conservation to developing world cities.

Throughout this degree programme you will gain a challenging perspective on subjects as diverse as glaciated landforms, economic restructuring, conservation practices and cultural identity. You will also be introduced to the characteristics, peoples and problems of many different regions of the world.

You will gain a thorough grounding in a wide range of academic skills, from the basics of mapping and statistics to the complexities of geographic information systems and textual interpretation, whilst promoting personal skills of presentation, debate and critical analysis.

How will I learn?

Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, small group tutorials and seminars. You will gain training in geographical techniques through laboratory programmes and fieldwork.

Special features
