About Doctor of Public Administration, DPA - at The University of Hong Kong

The objective of the Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) programme is to provide an opportunity for senior managers interested in public governance and administration, particularly those in the public and nonprofit sectors, to undertake continuing professional development and postgraduate study at the doctoral level. The programme is designed to extend students' knowledge of current critical issues in governance, public policy and public administration, and to enable them to develop their research and analytical skills through the completion of an original thesis. It prepares students to integrate academic and professional knowledge to enhance their intellectual abilities and professional practice in order to achieve more effective public leadership. Through these skills, graduates will be well placed to meet the challenges that arise in a rapidly changing environment of the global.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate:

a) shall comply with the General Regulations;

b) shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;

c) shall satisfy any other admission requirements which may be prescribed from time to time for the relevant curriculum; and

d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).

An application for exemption from the above requirements shall be considered on a case by case basis.
