About Music, MMus - at University of Liverpool

With the MMus programme you can extend your existing knowledge and skills with advanced academic and/or professional training in Music and Musicology.

There are three distinct tracks to the programme and we aim to help you reach a professional level of competence in your specialism by the end of the course. The tracks are:-

  • Musicology
  • Composition
  • Performance
  • Muisc Technology

We tailor our teaching around your needs and interests, through the modular structure that you'll find in all Masters degrees at the University.

The Musicology and Composition pathways are recognised by the AHRC for the award of studentships in Competition A. Acceptance is subject to the approval of the Programme Director, Dr. Holly Rogers. Enquiries can be addressed to her at E: [email protected].Ìý

Depending on your pathway, your programme will culminate after preparatory coursework in a dissertation, a portfolio of compositions, a portfolio of music technology projects and installations, or a full length solo recital.

The main subject accounts for 120 of the 180 credits in the flexible modular scheme: 30 credits for the coursework in each of the two semesters and 60 for the final dissertation, portfolio of compositions or recital.

You'll also take a package of Research and Practical Skills customised according to your interests or needs, together with one further module in Audio-Visual Media or a module from another strand (30 credits).
