This is an innovative, part-time, block release programme which has been designed to ensure maximum flexibility for all practitioners in ultrasound.
It permits specialisation in obstetrics and gynaecology, general medical ultrasound and reproductive medicine, as well as providing generic training for ultrasound practitioners. There is a taught academic programme which complements a structured and integrated clinical training programme. Any healthcare professionals are welcome to discuss entry with the programme director.
Candidates must be eligible to work in an NHS Trust or must have a suitable clinical placement in the independent sector. It is imperative that this is in place and agreed prior to completing a University application form. The programme is reviewed annually and may develop further and prospective students are encouraged to review up-to date details about this programme on the University website.Â
Students who work in the NHS may be eligible to apply for sponsorship from the Strategic Health Authority for tuition fees, if based in a hospital within the North West of England. Students outside of this area are normally funded either by their employer or are self-funded.
This programme offers exit points at Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma and Masters levels. Candidates are required to successfully complete both the academic and clinical assessment components in order to achieve an award and to ensure competence to practise. The Masters degree is achieved by independent research and the submission of a dissertation. The programme is modular and incorporates some compulsory and some optional modules dependent upon the clinical sub-speciality pathway chosen by the student. This modular approach is described below.
