About Economics and Finance, MSc - at University of Liverpool

On this challenging programme you'll gain a detailed theoretical, practical and systematic knowledge of economics and finance, along with valuable analytical and personal skills.

It's the perfect choice if you want to pursue a research-oriented career in the financial industry, international organisations, central banks, academia and research institutions.

You'll gain:-

  • Training in the key macroeconomic and microeconomic issues that underpin rigorous financial decision making
  • the skills needed for employment in research-oriented organisations, institutions and corporations
  • analytical and econometric techniques needed for economics and/or finance research
  • IT skills, including the use of relevant financial and econometric software
  • effective written and verbal communication skills.

This 12-month programme consists of six taught compulsory modules followed by a research project carried out over the summer period upon completion of Semester Two.

Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree in Economics is expected from a UK university or an equivalent academic qualification from a similar non-UK institution is required. For students with joint Economics degrees, first-class grades in the Economics component are expected. Students with a first-class degree from a quantitative Science discipline (e.g. Maths, Physics, Statistics, Operational Research) are strongly encouraged to apply. All candidates must meet our required level of English. International qualifications Applications from international students are welcomed. International qualifications will be evaluated in line with the National Academic Recognition Information Centre (NARIC) guidelines. English language qualifications All applicants must have reached a minimum required standard of English language, and are required to provide evidence of this. Qualifications accepted by the University include GCSE English; GCE O level English; AS Level English; A Level English Language; IELTS; TOEFL; Cambridge Proficiency etc. Please see www.liv.ac.uk/international/countries/index.htm for a full list. If you meet our other academic requirements but do not achieve the required level of English, it is possible to come and study at Liverpool on the University’s summer academic English programmes. The English Lanaguage Centre provides tuition and can arrange IELTS tests.
