Aims

The main educational aims of the programme are the following:

The Psychology Programme is devoted to the orientation of the students in the different sub-specialties in psychology.

The Programme offers a basic education in psychology specialties, and in major theories and techniques in psychology, and as such gives a first approach to psychologists' skills and to research in psychology.

Students encompass general theories, the empirical evidence and application of knowledge in applied areas of psychology with a sense of purpose that helps improve the human condition in various settings.

Objectives

Demonstrate familiarity with major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings and historical trends, methods in psychology.

Understand and apply basic research methods, including experimental methods, quantitative and qualitative methods, research design, data analysis and interpretation.

Respect and use critical and creative thinking, skeptical inquiry and the scientific approach.

Understand and apply psychological principles to personal, social and organisational issues.

Weigh evidence, tolerate ambiguity, act ethically and reflect other values underpinning psychology.

Demonstrate information competence and the ability to use computers and other technology for many purposes

Hone communication skills to effectively communicate scientific knowledge.

Recognise, understand and respect the complexity of sociocultural and international diversity.

Show insight into one's own and others' behavior and mental processes and apply effective strategies for self-management and self-improvement.

Emerge from the major with realistic ideas about how to use psychological knowledge, skills and values in various occupations, and in graduate or professional school.

Career Prospects

On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be fully prepared and equipped for various positions in which they can apply psychology to everyday life questions in order to enhance the well-being of individuals, groups and systems. In addition, they can be involved in other areas such as research services, social services, consumer behaviour, and areas associated with growing cultural and ethnic diversity.

Our graduates can work closely with professionals in other fields, in multi-disciplinary teams, for example, teachers, doctors, managers, lawyers, and so on. In all these areas they can add a distinct perspective, which complement that of the other.

Potential employment opportunities include: Clinical setting, education, industry, community, economy, etc.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the programme can be accepted into Second Cycle degrees (Master's Degree).
