We are a dynamic graduate program offering an MA, an MSc, an MNRES and a PhD.
The PhD NRES is intentionally interdisciplinary in nature, stressing the interconnections between the physical, biological and social/ethical components of natural environments.
The Master of Arts in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies (MA NRES) encourages the study of the social, cultural, ethical, economic and political dynamics of resource and land use, and environmental change.
The MSc NRES is designed for students whose research interests have a scientific emphasis, and attracts students from disciplines such as biology, forestry, environmental science, and physical geography, as well as other scientifically-oriented areas of resource management.
The MNRES is an interdisciplinary degree offering students the chance to undertake research that crosses science and social science/humanities boundaries or that is outside the normal scope of the MA or MSc. Students complete either a research based thesis or a project which allows more applied research opportunities.
UNBC is home to 58 faculty who supervise graduate students in the various degrees with a wide range of interests and expertise. Our graduate students come from across Canada and from around the world. While we are a relatively small graduate program, we have a great deal to offer students.
