About Public Policy, MA - at University of Reading

Using an interdisciplinary approach, this course uses traditional and modern insights from both economics and politics to develop essential skills needed in policy-making.

The MA Public Policy is designed to give you the tools to understand and assess a wide range of public policy issues.

It's a flexible course that allows you to combine modules from different pathways or choose to specialise in one of the following pathways:

Welfare and social policy;

Sustainable environments;

International development and emerging markets;

Global and regional governance and institutions;

Security and rights in the modern world.

During your studies, you will gain excellent exposure to policy makers, with many classes led by analysts from the UK government, while seminars feature politicians and government officials. Class sizes range from five to 25 students depending on the module.

In addition to attending classes and lectures, you will have the opportunity to undertake relevant placements.

Almost all research done in the Department of Economics, which is very applied in nature, and the Department of Politics is relevant to the MA in Public Policy.

We are a partner of Climate-KIC (Knowledge and Innovation Community), which is Europe’s largest climate innovation initiative. This partnership provides Reading students with many opportunities for free and significantly discounted Climate-KIC short courses and summer schools.

IELTS: 6.5 overall with no element less than 5.5 (or equivalent)
