About Cold War History, MA - at University of Roehampton

On this MA Cold War History degree you will gain a deep and thorough understanding of twentieth century Cold War history with a particular emphasis on how the most recent past has shaped our present times.

Nearly thirty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and in light of tumultuous international relations between China, Russia, and the United States, you will re-evaluate the origins and legacies of the Cold War, learning advanced research skills, project management, and critical thinking as you do so.

Roehampton offers expertise over an extensive geographical range, from the Americas to Europe, the Soviet Union, Africa, and the Pacific region. We also allow you to choose historical themes and events you wish to specialise in. You will be taught by leading scholars of the Cold War.Roehampton’s historians shape research in their field and you will develop and pursue research questions with these scholars.

You will develop your research skills, using digital technologies as well as traditional methods; crucial training for research in the twenty-first century. You will work closely with Roehampton’s Contemporary History Research Group, and will have the opportunity to join its meetings, in which all twentieth century historians of the department discuss their current research. This close connection allows you to participate in scholarly debates and benefit from research-led teaching.
