About Electrical Engineering (BSc), BSc - at University of Twente

This English-taught bachelor's programme focuses on developing and improving electronics-based systems. You will study and work on high-tech applications, such as robot arms for surgery or sensors for health applications. Developing and improving electronics-based systems

The Bachelor's programme in Electrical Engineering will equip you with knowledge and skills that are essential in almost all areas of technology (electronics, data storage, communication, antennas, user interfaces, energy storage, sensors, control, signal conditioning, robotics and optics). Electrical engineers are highly employable, largely because their training encompasses a branch of science rather than a specific profession. Whatever career path you decide on, as an electrical engineer you will invent your own future. Healthcare

  • Robotic arms that can perform appendix surgery or replace an amputated limb;
  • Monitoring and control systems for helping sick or disabled people;
  • Smart pills that incorporate various laboratory functions in a single chip and travel through the body measuring values to help diagnose a patient (lab-on-a-chip).

Telecommunication

  • Development of an automatic pilot for drones, so that they no longer have to be controlled from the ground;
  • Radio of the future: modular audio platform;
  • Innovative and unique beamforming system that can be applied in smart antenna arrays for satellite communication on high-speed vehicles, busses, trains, and aircraft. This broadband system is electronically steerable and has no mechanical moving parts;
  • Electronics designed for short-distance communication (e.g. between various devices used at home);

Safety & Sustainability

  • Car-to-car communication via sensors that can automatically adjust the speed of each vehicle;
  • Small robots that can predict tornados;
  • devices for converting chemical energy into electric energy;
  • a smart operating system that tells you whether you should use the electrical engine in your hybrid car or the fuel engine;
  • Face, behaviour and situation recognition for making public spaces safer;
  • More energy-efficient chips, so that mobile devices no longer need frequent recharging.

Entry requirements

International students: Non-Dutch students should have secondary school qualifications comparable to the Dutch VWO diploma (good A level results or International Baccalaureate) with good grades in Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects. As the programme is entirely English-taught, a high level of English proficiency (Cambridge English B1 level, IELTS minimum 6.0, or equivalent) is also required. Click here for more information. The Admission Office will then determine whether you meet the admission requirements for the Bachelor’s programme in Electrical Engineering.
