About Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry (MSc), MSc - at University of Warwick

The University of Warwick has pioneered dental postgraduate edcuation, based in approved primary care centres, and prides itself on providing the highest level of support for its students, as befits an institution regularly ranked within the top 10 UK universities.

Due to recent proposed changes in the structure of UK postgraduate dental education, which not only affect eligibility for Royal College of Surgeons qualifications, but also, with the new NHS dental contract, Department of Health dentists with extended skills (DES) status, the University is to re-align our MSc in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry programme, to maximize the opportunities which the aforementioned changes in UK postgraduate dentistry will offer.

We believe that this will offer our successful dental postgraduates even greater opportunities to further their careers.

Who is the course for?The Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry programme is aimed at GDPs who want to develop the skills needed for restorative dentistry.Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

• Think creatively and independently
• Solve problems
• Exercise judgement
• Communicate clearly and effectively with patients and colleagues
• Develop an in-depth understanding of, and the ability to apply, assessment, record taking, diagnostic and case management skills essential to the successful management of standard and more advanced restorative cases

The course aims to enable students to formulate and implement a safe and predictable treatment course, involving the identification and application of standard and more advanced restorative treatment modalities.

The essential entry requirements for dentists are enthusiasm, strong determination and a desire to study at Masters level to further professional development. If you have these qualities then this type of training programme is for you.

The MSc in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry is assessed by assignments, clinical cases and a professional project or dissertation.

All candidates must satisfy the Board of Graduate Studies’ requirements for entry and also:

• Hold a license to practise dentistry (BDS or LDS or international equivalent)
• Be a current member of the General Dental Council, or international equivalent for overseas candidates
• Have their own indemnity insurance for practising dentistry
• Have a minimum of two years’ clinical experience

English language requirements:
If your first language is not English, you must have completed an English language test in advance. We require:

• IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall (with 6.5 in the reading and writing components)
• PTE (Pearson Test of English) score of 55

If you have scored below this, you may be offered pre-sessional English language training at the University.

Once this is completed you will need to arrange and send the following documents:

• 2 references (academic if graduated within 3 years of the start of the course, or professional)
• GDC registeration or international equivalent (International applicants will also need to provide original or certified copies of Degree transcripts and Certificates)
• English Language certificate (if applicable)
