Course summary

Overview
This course is designed to advance analytical skills in the core subject areas of civil engineering including structural analysis, sustainability and hydraulics. Application of modern IT techniques to complex problem solving is a theme that runs through the course. 
The course also covers broader issues of project and process management in Civil Engineering.

Our MSc Civil and Environmental Engineering course is accredited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES), and successful completion satisfies the academic requirements for the grade Member.
The course is designed to advance your analytical skills and give you a better understanding of the interrelationship of current environmental issues and civil engineering. The course links these studies to the core subject areas of civil engineering including, but not limited to, sustainability, geotechnics and hydraulics.
You will have access to dedicated computing laboratory in two locations, and the academic and professional elements of the course are well supported by the university library. 
You will also have a range of digital resources available to you including specialist simulation packages with full licences such as: 
  • ANSYS
  • ETABS 
  • SAFE  
  • LUSAS.
This course is offered within a research-based school with some thirty PhD students, and it covers the broader issues of project and process management in Civil Engineering.

This course is run by the School of Computing and Engineering to provide you with both the high-quality teaching and the personal attention you need to make the most of your University education.
The School of Computing and Engineering teaching staff includes: 
Dr Kourosh Behzadian (BSc, MSc, PhD, CEng, MCIWEM, C.WEM, FHEA) a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering and an expert in Hydrosystems Engineering and Management, Geotechnical Design and Operations Research.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Entry requirements

Entry requirements

An honours degree, minimum 2:2, in Civil or Structural Engineering or other Engineering qualification at equivalent level.

Alternatively, a lower level qualification in a numerate area (e.g. BSc/BEng in Engineering) together with appropriate experience will also be considered.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
