Overview

A key strength of the BA (Hons) Criminology, Policing and Forensics course at the University of West London is our work-based learning modules. 

This course includes a foundation year, which equips you with the skills necessary to succeed in Higher Education and introduces you to the wider social context of criminology.

Typically, you will work in areas such as youth offending, victim support, crime prevention, witness support and various policing support roles including as a special constable.

This course provides you with a comprehensive understanding of every aspect of criminology. This includes knowledge of crime, explanations for why people break the law, the workings of the criminal justice and penal systems in the UK and abroad, and criminal investigation.

These provide an invaluable opportunity for you to gain experience in a crime related field, and enhance your chances of finding relevant employment after graduation.

During the course you will engage in work or volunteering with criminal justice agencies and allied fields to support your academic studies. There may also be an opportunity for you to travel to the United States to visit criminal justice institutions and agencies.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies.   • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.

You will need:

  • 48 UCAS tariff points normally in a minimum of two subject areas
  • GCSE English and Maths or Level 2 equivalent.

You are welcome to apply even if you don't have any formal qualifications. Your application will be considered on its individual merits taking into account your professional, work and life experiences and also your ability to engage with and benefit from the course.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
