Why choose this course? The aim of the DipHE Music Technology is to enable you to acquire and develop skills appropriate to contemporary sound and music pre and post-production, the skills that the industry really needs, along with the theory and techniques essential to the creation of music and audio to a professional standard.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 72 UCAS tariff points, which would normally include at least two subject areas including Music or a related subject area.
  • GCSE English and mathematics grade A*-C.

As well as the standard entry criteria, we expect you to be proficient on a musical instrument and have relevant performance qualifications and grades. However, it is more important you have music theory to at least Grade 5 standard.

We will ask you to submit at least two or three example scores. These may be handwritten or prepared in a music notation programme, such as Sibelius. If you use software to create your example scores, you must demonstrate the appropriate theoretical knowledge and techniques of creating basic scores, rather than your ability to programme software.

Because the course focuses on music technology, you must confirm previous experience with music technology systems. If you haven't studied on a recognised music technology course, we will ask you to provide a portfolio consisting of at least two or three tracks on CD, together with a detailed report on how they were recorded and your involvement in the process.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).

In some countries where teaching is in English, we may accept local qualifications. Please visit http://www.uwl.ac.uk/international/your-country to check for local equivalencies.

We offer pre-sessional English language courses if you do not meet these requirements. Find out more about our English Language courses
