Overview


This course offers you the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience of the key elements in live sound and events. Practical live sound-engineering, system design, recording techniques, acoustics and event management form the key components of the course.
Why choose this course?
The course builds upon the existing music technology provision, building on the unique opportunities for live production on offer at the London College of Music. There are a number of specialist performance courses, including pop performance, and performance and musical theatre, which require full event support. 
The Live Sound Production course focuses on the key elements required to support events, from smaller productions through to large-scale events and festivals - looking in detail at the technical, practical and legal and management aspects of running a live event.

On this course, you will be provided with the opportunity to gain underlying skills in recording and mixing to support live engineering - allowing you to diversify into studio-based recording and production. Video capture and editing skills are also delivered; as are analogue and digital audio theory, synthesis and production skills.

As a graduate, you will be able to pursue a diverse range of careers within the creative industries. Typical roles include:

Funding

BA Live Sound Production Bursary

The London College of Music at the University of West London is offering a new bursary to all new Home/EU entrants starting at Level 4 on a 3 year full-time BA Live Sound Production course in September 2017.

The bursary consists of a £2,000 award payable over two academic years, as two £1,000 instalments.

Eligibility

All new Home/EU full-time entrants starting in September 2017 on  BA Live Sound Production are automatically eligible and need not apply. Please note this bursary is not available for the BA Live Sound with Foundation Year course. Please see our Path to Success Scholarship for Foundation Year students.

Payment of award

In the first year, students will receive the first £1,000 instalment in the first semester of their course.

In the second year, subject to successful progression, the second instalment of £1,000 will be payable in the first semester of the second year.

Additional financial aid

Students can also apply for the UWL Full time Undergraduate Bursary Scheme on the condition that they meet the relevant criteria. The combination of the scholarship and bursary could potentially provide a total of £5,000 for the full duration of the student's course.

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies. Additional funding is available to some types of students, such as those with dependants, disabled students and more. Find out more about applying for student loans and other funding options.

We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to help you. Current scholarships include:

  • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 112-128 UCAS tariff points (or equivalent) normally in a minimum of two subject areas including Music or a related subject area
  • GCSE English and Maths (grade A*-C) or Level 2 equivalent.

You need to hold a Level 3 Music Technology qualification or alternatively can provide a portfolio.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
