Course summary

OverviewThis course aims produce compassionate, competent and confident nursing associates at academic level 5, qualified to deliver a wide range of clinical care and inter-personal skills underpinned by a systematic knowledge base. You will be able to practice safely and effectively within your parameters of practice, demonstrating appropriate values and behaviours in a wide range of health and care settings.

Why choose this course?The FdSc Nursing Associate Practice course emphasises the role that nursing associates will play in delivering care and public health interventions across the life-course (pre- conception to end of life) to promote health and well-being and the ways in which they actively contribute to the delivery of holistic care when people access healthcare in hospital, near home and at home. Holistic care is a whole-person approach which considers and equally values physical and psychological needs; public health needs; learning disabilities needs and considerations and socioeconomic, spiritual and other factors that impact on the assessment, planning and delivery of care.
Career and study progressionOn completion of the course, you will be able to seek employment as a nursing associate.
In addition, upon exiting the FdSc you may be able to use the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learnin (APEL) for up to 50% of the course against the BSc Pre-registration Nursing course.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies. We also offer a range of scholarships and bursaries to help you. Current scholarships include:

  • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

  • GCSEs Grade A-C in Maths and English or key skills level 2 in Maths and English (to be evidenced by a test during the interview process if relevant qualifications not available).
  • Demonstrable ability to study at Level 5 Diploma of Higher Education Level and commit to completing the Foundation Degree programme.
  • Demonstrate the personal values and attributes required of a healthcare practitioner through the Values-based recruitment process.

Additional criteria
Applicants must be working full-time for a health or social care organisation as a healthcare assistant or other nursing support role and be sponsored by their organisation. They will need to secure agreement that they can be released to attend all study days and all accepted student will have a sponsoring manager to ensure commitment and support from the employing organisation.
