About Sociology with Criminology with Foundation Year, BA (Hons) - at University of West London

Course summary

Overview
Sociology is the study of how groups of people behave and interact. On this course you will study and analyse human and behaviour in different social, cultural and institutional contexts.

This course includes a foundation year, which equips you with the skills necessary to succeed in Higher Education and introduces you to the wider social context of criminology.

Why choose this course?
The curriculum is at the forefront of the latest research and debate, giving you insight into today's issues, from globalisation to cyber society and theories of criminal behaviour.

Once you have successfully completed the foundation year, you will move onto the degree course, where you will analyse and learn about human behaviour and interaction as well as about crime and criminal justice.

You will gain professional experience during a work-based module.  Our students typically gain this in social, legal and welfare-related fields such as:

  • youth offending
  • victim support
  • social care
  • welfare support

As well as aiding your studies, this enhances your chances of finding relevant employment after graduation.

There will also be the opportunity to travel abroad to learn about other societies and cultures.

Career and study progression
Your degree can take you anywhere, but some of the most popular careers for our Sociology graduates include teaching, working with charities and journalism. You may also wish to undertake postgraduate study to specialise in a subject you've already studied, or to explore something new.

For more details please see the Career and study progression section.
