Overview

This is an innovative course, designed to meet the demands of contemporary social work practice. It will offer individuals the opportunity to participate in a course of study that has a strong practice focus, balanced with theoretical, research and evidenced based teaching and learning. The course will encourage students to utilise life skills and abilities, in order to develop innovative, creative thinking.

Our teaching staff have extensive practice experience across a wide range of services - particularly in areas that have attracted more and more focus in recent years, such as substance misuse, mental health and domestic violence.

Students and staff come from a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds, and from all walks of life, and this course helps develop the strengths which such a diverse profile brings to the social work professions. It also develops and applies student strengths through action learning sets and other experiential learning, and uses a wide range of teaching methods to ensure you contribute and benefit fully from the learning experience.

Career and study progression

The course will develop you to become a qualified social worker; to practise and work confidently and effectively with other professionals to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. 

It is designed to enable you to successfully meet the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), Standards of Proficiency (SoPs) for Social Work, working within the professional capabilities framework (PCF)  and the Social Work academic benchmark statements. 

You will develop competence in applying acquired knowledge, skills and values that will assist you in making social work interventions to improve complex social problems for diverse populations of service users.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies.   • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

112-120 UCAS tariff points, which would normally include at least two subject areas or equivalent qualifications at Level 3 plus GCSE Grade C or above in English language and mathematics.

Access to HE Diploma, with a minimum of 60 credits, 45 at Level 3 and 15 at Level 2. Access to HE must contain Level 2 Numeracy and Literature alternatively applicants must hold GCSE Grade C or above in English language and mathematics.

Applicants must attend a selection day, including a written assessment and individual interview with a panel and have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS check).

International entry criteria
Competence in written and spoken English is a pre-requisite for entrance and an IELTS (International and English Language Testing System) score of 7.0, or equivalent, is the minimum standard required for students whose first language is not English.
