About Nursing (PhD, MScN and MN); Graduate Diploma in Advanced Practice Oncology/Palliative Care; Graduate Diploma - Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner), PhD, MScN, MN - at University of Windsor

The Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) is a thesis-based degree program, and has two specialization/field options:

1) Advanced Clinical Practice Nursing Field

In the Advanced Clinical Nursing field students will explore the human experience of health, well-being, illness and healing within the context of individuals, families, groups and communities. Selected concepts such as health promotion, illness prevention, stress appraisal, and coping resources will be examined through critical appraisal of the literature in nursing and related disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to develop evidence-based knowledge and skills required to manage the complex health needs of Canada's multicultural population through health promotion and illness prevention or adaptation to illness and injury.

2) Nursing Leadership Field

In the Nursing Leadership field students will explore concepts of contemporary nursing leadership in management, research and education. Students will critically appraise and synthesize a variety of educational, environmental, and political issues that influence the Canadian health care system. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills necessary to impact policy and decision-making relevant to the profession of nursing, in particular, and the health care system in general.

Notes about fees for this course

Fees are an estimation and are based on tuition for sixteen (16) months or four (4) academic terms. Does not include Incidental Fees ($2,000*), Textbooks ($2,000*), Living Expenses and Meals ($12,000*).

Entry requirements

1. All general regulations of the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research admission requirements are applicable.

2. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent which includes physical assessment, and courses in research and statistics. Consideration may be given to nurse applicants holding degrees in other cognate disciplines.

3. Applicants must have maintained a minimum 70% average in the last two years of their undergraduate nursing program.

4. Applicants must be eligible for a current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. (www.cno.org)

5. Three Faculty of Nursing confidential reports must be completed by academic/professional referees. One of these must be from a current or recent employment supervisor.

6. An "Applicant Profile" must be completed, which includes a section addressing goals in seeking graduate education (narrative statement).

7. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit certification of English proficiency as follows:

8. IELTS - Minimum score: 7.0; or,

9. Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN): Minimum scores: Writing - 7; Speaking - 8; Listening - 10; Reading - 8.

10. Applications for admission with required documents must be submitted by February 1.

11. An interview may be required.
