Students are admitted to our programs based on their grade point average (GPA), graduate record exam (GRE) scores (the GRE Psychology subject test is not required), three (3) letters of recommendation, and a personal statement expressing interest in graduate training in the field. Because selection of students is highly competitive and the available openings are limited, meeting the minimum requirements in any of these areas does not guarantee admission.

The University of Windsor receives applications to graduate school via an electronic system. The link above takes you to the start of the application process on the OUAC website. There you will create an account, select your program (s), enter information about your application and your referees, and pay the application fee. You will then be directed to the University of Windsor Electronic Graduate Admission System, where you will upload the required documents (transcripts, GRE scores, personal statement). Your letter writer will receive an email requesting that they complete the recommendation electronically. At this stage of the application process you do not need to provide official transcripts or GRE records.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

A prospective student should have a Psychology Honours B.A. or its equivalent: that is, 18-20 psychology courses including introductory psychology, basic and intermediate statistics, and laboratory courses in learning and experimental methods. Students should also have completed an Honours B.A. thesis or equivalent (please contact the Graduate Secretary for more information if you do not have this requirement).

All applicants should normally have attained major and cumulative grade point averages equivalent to at least a "B" average in their undergraduate coursework. These requirements are the minimum acceptable.

GRE

Applicants must submit general GRE scores (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing). For most programs and tracks the minimum GRE score for admission is the 60th percentile.

Letters

Three letters of recommendation are required. You will provide email addresses for each of your letter writers in the electronic application system, and requests for references will be emailed to your letter writers. It is preferable for all of your references to be from academic sources such as your professors. Nevertheless, you can submit two academic references and one professional reference if the employment or volunteer position is relevant to your chosen field of study in psychology.

Personal Statement

Applicants are required to write a personal statement regarding interest in graduate training in the field. Applicants should describe their research interests and indicate potential faculty member supervisors whose research interests are compatible with their own. The statement should be no more than two pages, single-spaced.

The Department of Psychology encourages applications from self-identified visible minorities, members of First Nations, individuals with alternative life styles, and individuals with special needs. If an individual has any questions, he or she should contact the Department Head during the application process.
