Study a Innovation and Design degree in Canada in 2025

If you have a passion for design, a university degree in Innovation and Design allows you to focus on developing creative solutions for a variety of problems. As well as learning about the design process, the interdisciplinary nature of this programme will allow you to learn about innovation management. You will learn how to effectively apply your creativity to approach projects of all kinds, including UX, product design, garment design, engineering and more.

Graduates of programmes in Innovation and Design will learn more about product design, developing methodologies to conceive and design better products for end users. You may also cover UX, developing software with superior interactivity for end users. You may learn skills in illustration and 2D drawing, CAD and 3D modeling and rapid prototyping using technology such as 3D printing.

By studying in this field, your modules are likely to cover topics such as:

Graduates of degrees in Innovation and Design may go on to careers in design agencies, graphical design, engineering and marketing, product developers, designer and project management.

Undergraduate programmes in Innovation and Design are commonly available at universities around the world as:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (BEng degree) which typically take 3 years to complete when studied Full-time
  • Bachelors of Arts (BA degree), which typically take between 3-4 years to complete when studied Full-time, and may include a year on placement
  • Bachelors of Science (BSc degree), which typically take between 3-4 years to complete when studied Full-time, and may include a year on placement

Entry requirements for undergraduate degrees in Innovation and Design will usually include academic achievement at the level required by your chosen university in related subject areas such as creative arts and computing. If applicable, you may also need to provide evidence of your English language proficiency in either TOEFL, IELTS tests.
