Study a Microbiology degree abroad in 2025

Microbiology encompasses the study of microorganisms, such as algae, bacteria, fungi, moulds and viruses. There are several sub-disciplines within the field of microbiology, including bacteriology, virology and immunology, among others. As a microbiologist you could be responsible for the development of new medicines, tracking the emergence of new diseases, or studying the increase of antibiotic resistance.

Graduates of a degree in microbiology have a wide range of career opportunities available to them. These include biomedical scientist, food technologist, marine biologist, immunologist, pharmacologist and laboratory technician, as well as many others.

Your degree will be delivered through a mixture of modes. These will include lectures and seminars, as well as practical laboratory sessions. Depending on your course, you may also have the option to take part in a work placement. Modules you study could include:
