Love design but also enjoy working with technology? This course is about communicating your ideas and expressing your vision through digital technology. It is everything to do with the design of the web, apps, spaces and experiences.
Digital Design at JMC will provide you with the tools and skills you’ll need to easily adapt to emerging media and technology as it storms the world stage, and work in a holistic way with this tech to turn your ideas into things that we can not only visualise, touch or hear, but also things we can actively experience.
Merging ever-expansive new technologies into our lives in a way that serves us rather than frustrating us, is one of the great design challenges of our time. With our studio-based learning, you will gain an experience that mirrors the industry you’re preparing to enter and sets you up make it.
We take design seriously at JMC, with studios full of the best tech in the trade. From Day One you’ll have access to light-filled design studios and highly sophisticated equipment including Adobe Creative Cloud, Wacom graphics tablets, HTC Vive VR tech, 3D printers and DSLR cameras.
The Bachelor degree lets you immerse yourself in a technical digital environment to develop the skills and use the equipment you will need to make it in the industry. Investigate design-led social change, 3D printing and VR, and engage with the industry on commercial projects with real clients while creating a professional showreel of your own work.
Learning takes place in an art design studio complete with glass ideation walls where you’ll be encouraged to explore your creativity while building your design literacy. Master advanced design software skills and 3D animation, and lead your own collaborative project – from initial brief through to delivery and pitch. Graduate with a professional portfolio designed to catapult you into the heart of the industry.
Domestic: 8,600 AUD per trimester
International: 9,800 AUD per trimester
Proof of English proficiency: minimum IELTS 6.0 overall (with no single band score below 5.5) or equivalent.
Evidence of successful completion of a senior Secondary School certificate (transcripts and certificate must be translated and certified).
Attend an interview in person or over skype.
You must be at least 17 years of age on commencement of studies. Applicants under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian in Australia. In some cases JMC Academy can assist in making suitable welfare arrangements.
Contemporary Music applicants must undertake an audition. Audition videos/online links are accepted for applicants living overseas or interstate.
Songwriting applicants may undertake an audition OR submit a folio. The folio can consist of song lyrics, charts, recorded original songs or other relevant items as discussed with the admissions officer.
Animation, Games and Digital Design applicants are required to prepare a portfolio of sample work/drawings.
Applications will be accepted until 2 weeks before the course commences, but please note that visa applications can take considerably longer than two weeks to process. Please contact the Australian Embassy in your home country for recommended timeframes for processing your visa application.
