Hear from one of our tutors about studying Childhood and Youth at Liverpool Hope. Located in the Department of Social Work, Care and Justice, the BA Childhood and Youth is a vibrant, multidisciplinary subject which draws on sociology, psychology, history, cultural geography, education, health and wellbeing and social policy to inform understandings of contemporary childhood and youth. Throughout the three years of study you will explore the multifarious challenges facing children and young people, including topics such as the impact of social and economic change, media violence, cyber-bullying and internet grooming, child obesity, child-trafficking and child labour, alcohol-consumption, drug-use and sexual health. You will also explore how children and young people construct their own cultural worlds, producing meanings and understandings of their own identities, activities and places in ways that often run counter to how they are perceived by adults. You will consider how media and political representations construct children and young people as 'social problems' and examine the implications of this for government policies.

In addition to enhancing employment opportunities in either the public or voluntary sectors, the BAC Childhood and Youth offers a Route Way to Social Work, providing access to the postgraduate courses MA Social Work and MA Youth and Community Work through which you can acquire a professional qualification.
