About Comparative and International Dispute Resolution, LLM - at Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London

The LLM in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution aims to challenge a new generation of lawyers to rethink traditional approaches to conflict. The programme is grounded in dispute resolution theory: you will study a programme that combines broad interdisciplinary training and opportunities for individualised study and skills development.

  • Study within the School of International Arbitration (SIA) a leader in the academic discussion on arbitration
  • Consider the specific problems that arise in arbitration and contribute to the development of arbitration theory
  • Participate in SIA activities such as the Annual SIA Lecture, conferences, symposiums and networking events
  • Your fellow students will come from the UK and more than 80 other countries, each able to draw on prior academic and professional experience from different jurisdictions
  • If you wish to study online, find out more about our Online International Dispute Resolution

You will be able to study transnational law and governance, alternative dispute resolution and arbitration. You will consider commercial conflict of laws and the ethics of arbitration. Please note that not all modules will be available in any one year.

You will be offered a varied selection of taught modules from which you can choose, enabling you to gear your qualification to set you on your desired career trajectory. You do not have to choose your modules until you have had the opportunity to learn about them in greater detail during your comprehensive induction period.

You will also have voluntary access to an excellent series of lectures in Critical Thinking and Writing in Law to help you improve your writing and research in law skills.

The Comparative and International Dispute Resolution LLM offers the Amir Ghaffari Scholarship, which provides a full international student fee waiver.

More than 3,000 students have studied the LLM in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution since the programme started in 1985. Upon graduating, you will be able to join the Alumni and Friends of the SIA (AFSIA), an international network of arbitration specialists.
