About Mechanical Engineering, BEng - at Savonia University of Applied Sciences

Mechanical Engineering in Savonia University of Applied Sciences was the first European Union accredited engineering programme in Finland in 2014. There are still just two other programmes in Finland having the same status. So the high level quality of teaching and operations are proved by the EU.

Mechanical Engineering studies lead to the title of Bachelor of Engineering (BEng, in Finnish: Insinööri (AMK)). With EUR-ACE status it qualifies students to apply for master degree programmes in the European Union. The EU qualification is recognized as a mark of quality all over the world.

The EUR-ACE evaluation is maintained by the organization called ENAEE. This is a European technology organization that evaluates programmes for engineers. The EUR-ACE status makes sure that the programme meets the quality standards of the European Union. Informally they are spoken of as European engineers. Graduates can work as chartered professional engineers throughout Europe.

Engineers need good basic skills and knowledge in mathematics and natural sciences, as well as in product design and development and manufacturing technology. That is why these are the main content of the programme during the first and second years of the studies, and they provide a strong basis for the professional competences in Mechanical Engineering.

Industrial management studies provide students with a diverse knowledge of industrial processes such as business economics and supply chains. Project business management is a special emphasis in your studies. It covers the principles and methods of managing processes, projects and change. These studies you will complete during the third and fourth year of your studies.

Project working is an integral part of the study methods in Mechanical Engineering. Engineering skills, including working life skills, are learned via projects. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required when someone is working on global projects involving people representing a wide range of nationalities and cultures. Managing different types of networks is also an essential skill for a future engineering expert.
