The Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) in Interdisciplinary Problems and Methods is a new kind of degree designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they’ll need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Each term, you’ll tackle a specific problem such as inequality, sustainability, or the ethics of AI. You’ll study concepts and theories from subjects like anthropology, physics, and contemporary art, that provide the lenses through which to understand these complex issues. At the same time, you’ll learn a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods and transferrable skills — ranging from coding to interview techniques to storytelling.
The problem-centric degree at LIS creates connections across multiple disciplines, giving you a wide-reaching, purpose-led undergraduate education. On top of your academics, LIS brokers paid internships each year, to help you build your insight and experience in the world of work.
We welcome applications from all subject backgrounds, whether you've specialised in STEM, the arts or humanities.
We don’t set a minimum bar in terms of grades, but instead look at every applicant’s academic attainment in the context of their educational, familial, and personal background. We want to understand what our applicants have achieved academically given their starting point. It’s also why we invite all eligible applicants to an online Selection Day interview.
Students must be at least 18 years of age by the end of the first academic year after enrolment at LIS.
We welcome A-levels, Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, Irish Leaving Certificate, Welsh Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, German Abitur, Italian Maturita, and International Baccalaureate. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether your qualifications will be accepted.
All non-Home students will be asked at the point of application to complete an additional step, which is the completion of a short personal statement on why they are applying for the LIS programme. Non-Home students who are successful in passing this step will then be invited to a Selection Day.
If you have not been taught and assessed in English for the past two years or longer and do not have a valid or current English language qualification, you will be required to sit an English language test.
