About Sports and Exercise Medicine, MMedSci - at University College Cork (UCC)

Overview

The course is intended to provide a recognised training module for qualified medical practitioners in this vital area of public and medical interest. The learning objectives include:-

  • increasing the practitioner's knowledge and understanding in a wide range of topics associated with sport and exercise medicine.
  • providing opportunities for clinical practice, and engaging the practitioners in lectures and discussion groups.

Course Details

Students take 90 credits as follows:

SX6001 Sports Injuries I: Clinical (20 credits)
SX6002 Exercise, General Health and Sports Medicine (20 credits)
SX6003 Sport and Exercise Medicine: Scientific Principles (20 credits)
SX6004 Research Project (30 credits)

2017 Entry Requirements: Medical qualification of the NUI or an equivalent institution, and full registration as a doctor with the Irish Medical Councilor a Physiotherapy honours degree with a minimum 2.1, membership of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists and experience of sports service provision.
