About Public Policy and the Environment, MA - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

This cross-disciplinary MA is grounded in a political science understanding of general public policy-making and change. It takes students through central theories, models and concepts and how these are applied to policy making by comparing environmental, social and other areas of public policy. Study decision-making about the environment more widely, including individual and cultural framings, values, and societal changes, whilst also taking optional studies in politics, international development or law.

Structure

Teaching is delivered through lectures and small group seminars which build your employability by honing skills such as independent research, oral presentations, team and project work and critical analysis of arguments. This course provides a wide range of career opportunities with enough choice of modules to allow either career specialism in environmental issues, or a broader focus.

Teaching

The course benefits from world-leading expertise from both the School of Political, Social and International Studies and the School of Environmental Sciences. In addition to a diverse academic approach, UEA also host a rich programme of research seminars, visiting speakers, panel debates and high-profile public events to further your learning outside the classroom.

Employability

Over the course of the MA, students develop a variety of transferable skills including debating, oral presentations, team work, project work and essay writing. All students also take a module that is specifically designed to help improve research skills, ideal for those seeking a career in research. Graduates have taken up jobs in the fields of business, teaching, policy research, government and international organisations. The career centre at UEA is an excellent resource, hosting special days for Politics students to talk to professionals working in their field.
