About Animal Conservation and Biodiversity, BSc (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

The BSc Animal Conservation and Biodiversity programme is geared to produce honours graduates who are capable of progression to employment in animal conservation organisations, associated occupations such as working for ecological consultancies, or into research and development roles. Many graduates continue onto postgraduate Masters or PhD programmes in their chosen specialism.

Degree structure

The programme consists of core and elective courses over the three years of study. In the first year all 8 courses are core, being 15 credits each. In the second year there are seven core units and one elective. Again all courses in the second year are 15 credits. In the final year, students will study five core courses and one elective, all being 15 credits and a dissertation/honours project worth 30 credits.

• Evolution and Taxonomy
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Research Skills
• Concepts in Conservation
• Concepts in Ecology.

Year 2:
Compulsory Courses

• Industry Experience and Skills Development
• Breeding Management and Genetics
• Statistics for the Animal Sciences
• Wildlife and Landscape Conservation
• Conservation Technology
• Global Biodiversity & Conservation Issues
• Field Survey Skills.

Optional Courses

• Animal Health & Disease Management

Or

• Exotics Collection Management.

Year 3:
Compulsory Courses

• Honours Project for the Animal Sciences
• Current Issues
• Professional Ecological Skills
• Conservation and Tourism
• Geographical Information Systems for the Animal Sciences
• Animal Human Conflict Resolution.

Optional Courses

• Behavioural Ecology

Or

• Animal Ecology and Global Environmental Change.
