About Drama, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Drama at Greenwich offers a rich andsupportive environment to study the practice and theory of theatre. Weacknowledge the diverse contexts in which drama occurs and the creativechallenges it inspires. We have excellent facilities including our own Bathwaytheatre site with its 100 seat fully equipped theatre and 6 studios spaces forteaching and rehearsal.  Modules rangewidely from contemporary performance skills to historical and modern dramatic literature.Specific performance practices such as applied drama, physical theatre andperformance making are embedded in the programme, with other options availableincluding playwriting. All courses combine theory and practice, and providestudents with opportunities to develop their performance skills, improve theirwriting and public speaking, acquire technical expertise and experiment withnew approaches to theatre performance and research. Students engage intheatre-making as performers, writers, stage technicians and directorsthroughout their degree.

Outcomes

The aims of the programme are:

  • To further students' understanding of drama within social, historical and cultural contexts through practice, research and experience
  • To encourage critical and creative engagement with the history and theory of theatre to enhance understanding of contemporary theatre environments and practices
  • To advance knowledge of a range of theatre practitioners and specific performance practices and encourage reflection on the inter-relationship of theory and practice
  • To encourage collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to performance research and performance making
  • To prepare students for the application of their skills and knowledge in professional environments through public performance and community engagement
  • To develop transferable skills, including presentation and articulation, analysis and critical reading, research, bibliographic construction, word processing, project management, collaboration and community liaison.
