About Psychology with Counselling, BSc (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

Psychology has a big impact on all areas of life, from education and health, to the economy and crime.

This degree is ideal if you are interested in becoming a clinical psychologist, therapist or looking to work in the mental health sector. It also provides a route into other areas of psychology such as forensic psychology and health psychology.

During the degree you will be introduced to the core areas of psychology and counselling by our research-active teaching staff who are experts in their field. Through a series of guided-learning exercises they will provide you with a strong grounding in psychological research methods, analysis and reports. This will culminate in an exciting independent research project in your final year.

You will seek to understand mind and behaviour through experimentation, interaction and observation. Our degree covers the theories that underpin practice, including psychodynamic, humanistic-existential and cognitive behavioural perspectives.

In the counselling skills and theory courses you will learn how to help those experiencing distress whether due to mental health issues, trauma or life transitions such as bereavement. You will also gain an understanding of the theory and ethics, as well as modern developments within counselling practice. Our degree will also introduce you to the skills required to progress onto further training in counselling.
