This programme will give you a detailed study of human health and disease, focusing on the pathogenesis (mechanism) of disease, diagnostic pathway and therapeutic intervention. It will prepare you for careers in medical diagnostic and research environments.
The first year is a foundation for more advanced studies in subsequent years. Approximately a quarter of the programme is taken up with practical-based courses that will build your skills in this area.
The second and final years take skills and theoretical development to more advanced levels. You can also carry out an independent research project that comprises one quarter of your final-year study. If you want work experience in this field, you can undertake a sandwich year.
The aims of the programme are:
Your time at university should be enjoyable and rewarding, and it is important that it is not spoilt by unnecessary financial worries. We recommend that you spend time planning your finances, both before coming to university and while you are here. We can offer advice on living costs and budgeting, as well as on awards, allowances and loans.
