About Languages and International Relations, BA (Hons) - at University of Greenwich

This programme offers a multidisciplinary approach to international relations, responding to evolving notions of our global environment to equip you with the tools you need to understand and question global issues in the 21st century.

You will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the way national and transnational political forces have shaped the modern world and continue to shape our lives, and also the means to understand and express this in one or more foreign languages.

The programme is structured to enable you to follow your interests and deepen your specialist knowledge by exploring cultural and political dynamics that transcend national boundaries. Languages will be an important tool in furthering your knowledge and understanding of cultural, political and social differences in an international context.

Language tuition

You can choose to study at the appropriate level for you: courses are taught at beginner, post-GCSE or beyond A-level standard. Language skills are essential to a career in diplomacy and will enable you to undertake a work placement in your final year in an EU or international organisation.

Work experience abroad

You will also have the opportunity to study part of this degree in a European partner institution during your second year, as part of the European Union student exchange programme, ERASMUS.

Employability

You will develop a range of capabilities valued and sought by prospective employers. You will acquire invaluable transferable skills, such as communicating across cultures, using sources, evaluating evidence, time management, team working and problem solving, while situating the concept of the language(s) you study in an intercultural context. These skills are used in many careers across the private, public and voluntary sectors. Allied with intellectual and academic development, they will provide a sound preparation for the world of work or further study.
