Statistics as an academic field focuses on the study and manipulation of data. This involves the gathering, analysis and processing of data, as well as the presentation and conclusion of what the data has shown. There are two main subjects within statistics, these are descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Statistical findings can be incredibly useful in an extremely wide range of fields, and is not limited to mathematical applications.
Graduates of a masters degree in statistics will have a wide variety of career options available to them. These include actuarial analyst, data scientist, risk analyst, insurance underwriter, and market researcher.
