The school has an excellent pool of competent teaching staff in the ‘classical’ liberal arts in humanities topics (art, literature, philosophy, modern foreign languages etc). Moreover, our strength is that we can combine these with competences from history, anthropology, Estonian studies, Asian studies, literary and cultural studies, and comparative cultural analysis.
Our programme is in English, unlike some other Liberal Arts programmes in the nearby region. An excellent Erasmus network permits students to enrich their degree by studying abroad. The ample amount of free electives permits students to create added value for their degree.
Full-time studies
During the 3-year programme the BA students is expected to participate in a number of compulsory and elective courses. The studies are organised so that the Liberal Arts student will be studying closely together with other Tallinn University students, including Erasmus students. This should promote good exchange of ideas. Students are permitted to take courses from the other Schools of Tallinn University.
Core course components
Students will have to pass university-wide courses that are taught to all our BA students at Tallinn University, including a major project course ELU. There are courses that help to hone the understanding of Humanities, and students will have to engage in practical activites. We expect our students to hone their language skills and acquire at least a modest level of Estonian Language.
Students can develop skills for subject-related research, choosing between the elective modules of Anthropology, Asian Studies, Estonian Studies, Comparative Cultural Analysis Literary and Cultural Studies of English Speaking Countries, and History.
Open electives enable students to develop unique and meaningful entities of their own. The studies will end with a bachelor exam.
