About BA Management Studies, BA - at University of Leicester, School of Management
Our BA Management Studies offers you a programme of learning which will expose you to the realities of the managerial experience in both the public and private sectors. The course covers the relevance of both theory and practice for the solution of management problems in both national and international contexts.
First YearThe first year lays down the foundations and prepares you for the analytical and theoretical arguments that are developed throughout the degree. You will be introduced to the core subject areas of management. In addition to an overview provided by the introductory Foundations of Management module, you will engage with the issues of other specialist areas such as Accountancy, Marketing and Economics. Throughout this first year you will have the opportunity to develop your writing skills, qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills, and IT skills.
Second YearIn the second year, you will develop your knowledge of further specialist areas and continue to engage with the debates introduced in the first year. The integrative approach of considering the ethical, cultural, historical and inter-disciplinary aspects of management will be facilitated through core modules such as Managing Organisations. You will also have the opportunity to select a number of options, which typically include modules such as Organisational Change and Development, Buyer Behaviour, Marketing Communications, and International Finance.
Third YearIn your final year you have the opportunity to pull together what you have learnt in your degree so far by writing a dissertation; this is a substantive piece of self-directed research that you may choose to undertake in an area of your choice and interest. In addition, you will undertake modules such as Strategy, International Business and Critical Analysis for Management that seek to develop and integrate your knowledge. Further integrative modules will be provided for you to choose from. Typical modules might include, for example, Business Ethics, the Future of Work, Knowledge Management, Global Marketing and Consumer Culture, Corporate Finance and Marketing Communications.
